The blue oil fern (Microsorum thailandicum) is literally on my list as one of my of top 5 favorite, aka. coolest looking plants.  No joke when I say it truly has an irridescent blue-green metallic sheen penetrating the leaf like the colors in a peacock feather.  The deep green leaves are long and strappy which as the grow older, the tips can flare out like tiny crab claws.  If you're interested in keeping that shiny metallic irredescent look, a good rule of thumb is the more sunlight it receives, the less of the metallic blue you'll see, the lower light the better.  It grows best in a filtered shade environment and/or in lower light levels since in it's natural habitat, it grows near the jungle forest floor as an understory plant.  It's one of the last layer of plants to receive the sunlight through a thick multi-layer tropical tree canopies.  Yet the blue oil fern is versitle & can be grown directly in your landscape and/or in a container as a house plant.  Though remember try to recreate it's habitat of origin as it will need a certain level of humidity to survive as well as moist waterings without staying constantly wet.   Ours are grown outdoors in a natural SE Florida environment.   Known to be slow growers, you can certainly see how big our are...these won't last long!  This Thailand native is truly is an eye catcher!

Our blue oil ferns are sold in a 1-gallon pot and are currently range from 10-14 inches wide x 10-14 inches high, super full compared to others for sale.  Grows outdoors in zones 10-12 outdoors.
