If you are not familar this plant, please let me introduce you to the medusa flower plant (Strophanthus preussii) which hails from the tropical areas of west and central Africa. Very new to us at Twisted Trunk Home & Garden so we are still watching ours grow like a wonky vine type structure reaching out its long branches using other plants for support. This soft wood scrambler looks like it would be great for a trellis or arbor in order to admire the unusual flowers. So far it doesn't seem to get out of control but they are in pots so that may help. The trumpet shaped flowers start out white, gently age to a cream then to an elder yellow color with a maroon throat and tendrils curling around each other, hence medusa flower. They should be called "crazy hair don't care" flower, hee hee. They have a gentle scent but nothing heavy. This is definitely a super cool unique plant you'd see in a botanical garden or conservatory.
This tropical plant is an unusual plant not commonly found here in south Florida though it could be grown outdoors here either in the landscape or planters. Needs temperatures between 70-90 degrees fahrenheit for optimal growth though can withstand small amounts of colder weather 40-60 fahrenheit without issue; zones 9-11. Grows from 5- 11 ft.
Our medusa plants are in an 3-gallon container Please note that all parts of this plant are considered toxic if ingested so please be mindful with pets and children. Hence it's other name "poison arrow or poison dart" vine.
Because it is a living plant we expedite shipping to make sure the plant arrives healthy and alive. Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
